A 30-minute local SEO setup for any Welsh small business

SEOSEO · seo

If you run a local business in Wales and you are not getting consistent enquiries from Google, the problem is usually one of three things. All three can be fixed in an evening.

Step one: Google Business Profile (15 minutes)

Claim your Google Business Profile if you have not already. Fill in every field — not just the basics. The description, the services, the opening hours, the photos.

Photos matter more than most people realise. Businesses with ten or more photos get significantly more profile visits than those with one or two. You do not need a photographer — a decent phone and good daylight will do it.

Then get your first five reviews. Ask your five best customers directly, by name. A personal message asking for honest feedback converts at 30 to 40%. A template email to your entire list converts at almost nothing.

Step two: NAP consistency (5 minutes)

NAP means Name, Address, Phone number. Google uses this to verify your business is legitimate and consistent. Check that your name, address, and phone number are identical — not just similar — on your website, Google Business Profile, Facebook page, and any directories you are listed in.

Common failures: Ltd vs Limited, different phone formats, old addresses still on Yell or Thomson Local. Fix the mismatches.

Step three: Local schema markup (10 minutes)

Add LocalBusiness schema markup to your homepage. This tells Google exactly what type of business you are, where you are, and how to contact you. On WordPress, Yoast or Rank Math handles this automatically. On a custom build, a LocalBusiness JSON-LD block takes twenty minutes to add.

After the basics

Once the foundations are solid, local results tend to improve within four to eight weeks. If they do not, the issue is competition from businesses with more reviews and more local content — a different problem with a different solution.
